Weaknesses of all 18 Pokemon types

The table reads from the defender's side: each row is a Pokémon type and lists the attacking types that are super effective against it, the ones it resists and the ones it ignores. It uses the Gen 6+ chart (X and Y through Scarlet and Violet).

Reading dual-type weaknesses

Most Pokémon have two types, and that is where weaknesses get interesting. The game multiplies the two values together, so a shared weakness becomes a 4× weakness and a shared resistance becomes a ¼× resistance. Three examples:

  • Grass/Flying (like Jumpluff) is 4× weak to Ice, because both types are weak to it.
  • Water/Ground (Swampert, Quagsire) has a single weakness: 4× to Grass. Ground cancels Water's Electric weakness with an immunity.
  • Steel/Fairy (Mawile, Klefki) is weak only to Fire and Ground and immune to both Poison and Dragon.

Weakness chart vs type chart vs type calculator

The Pokemon type chart shows every attacking-versus-defending matchup in one 18 × 18 grid, which is best for planning your moves. This weakness chart answers the defensive question for one Pokémon at a time. The type calculator combines both views and adds a quiz to help you memorise them.

Covering weaknesses on a team

A single weakness is fine if a teammate resists it. Note the 2× and 4× rows above, then look for partners that resist those types. The Pokemon team builder does that across six Pokémon and flags weaknesses the whole team shares.

Weakness Chart FAQ

What is a Pokemon weakness chart?

▶

It lists, for a defending type, which attacking types deal extra damage (weaknesses), reduced damage (resistances) and no damage (immunities). It is the type chart read by column instead of by row.

How do dual-type weaknesses work?

▶

Both types are checked and their multipliers are multiplied. Grass/Flying is 4× weak to Ice (2 × 2), while Water/Ground takes 0× from Electric because Ground is immune. A weakness on one type and a resistance on the other cancel out to 1×.

Which single type has the most weaknesses?

▶

Grass and Rock, with five each. Grass is weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying and Bug; Rock is weak to Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground and Steel.

Which types have the fewest weaknesses?

▶

No type is weakness-free. Normal is weak only to Fighting and Electric only to Ground, while Steel has three weaknesses but the most resistances (ten) plus a Poison immunity.

Which types have immunities?

▶

Normal (to Ghost), Ghost (to Normal and Fighting), Ground (to Electric), Flying (to Ground), Dark (to Psychic), Steel (to Poison) and Fairy (to Dragon).

Does this include abilities and Tera types?

▶

No. The chart uses types only, on the Gen 6+ chart. Abilities such as Levitate or Flash Fire and Terastallization can change the result in battle.
