Pokemon Team BuilderSix Pokemon. Zero blind spots.

This free Pokemon team builder lets you pick six of the original 151 Pokemon and instantly shows where your team is weak, what it resists and which types it can hit hard. Copy the link to share your team.

What this Pokemon team builder does

Most teams lose not because a single Pokemon is bad, but because three of them share the same weakness. One Earthquake, one Surf, one Ice Beam, and half the team is gone. This tool is built to catch that before you start a playthrough, a Nuzlocke or a friendly battle. Pick a slot, tap a Pokemon from the grid (or search by name or type), and the two panels on the right update immediately.

It covers all 151 Kanto Pokemon using today's type chart, the same chart used since Pokemon X and Y (Gen 6). That means 18 types, Fairy included, and modern typings such as Fairy Clefable and Electric/Steel Magneton. If you want to look up any single or dual typing outside your team, use our Pokemon type calculator.

How to use the team builder

 1. Choose a slot. The highlighted slot is where your next pick goes. After each pick the builder jumps to the next empty slot.
 2. Add Pokemon. Search by name ("snorlax") or by type ("water") to filter the list of 151.
 3. Read the weakness table. Each of the 18 attacking types shows how many teammates are weak and how many resist it. Red rows are your danger zones.
 4. Check offensive coverage. The coverage meter counts how many of the 18 types your team's own types hit super-effectively.
 5. Share. Press Share link to copy a URL with your team built in. Nothing is saved on our server.

Not sure where to start? Hit 🎲 Random for six random Pokemon, then fix the holes. For even more randomness try the Pokemon roulette wheel.

How to build a balanced Pokemon team

There is no single best team, but good teams follow a few rules that the analysis panels make easy to check.

1. Avoid stacked weaknesses

A good rule of thumb: no attacking type should hit three or more of your Pokemon super-effectively unless at least one teammate resists it. The builder highlights those rows in red. The classic Kanto trap is Ground: Pikachu, Charizard's partners Arcanine and Jolteon, Gengar and Onix are all weak to it. A Flying type or a Levitating partner fixes that, and a Grass or Water type punishes Ground in return.

2. Pair types that cover each other

The Fire, Water and Grass triangle exists for a reason: each covers the weakness of another. Similar "cores" work with other types, such as Dragon, Steel and Fairy, or Ghost, Dark and Fighting. When you add a new Pokemon, watch whether the red rows shrink.

3. Aim for wide offensive coverage

Getting 12 or more of 18 types on the coverage meter with STAB types alone is a strong start. Remember that real movesets add even more coverage: a Water type that learns Ice Beam also hits Dragon, Grass and Flying.

4. Use immunities

Immunities are the most valuable resistances. Ground ignores Electric, Flying ignores Ground, Ghost ignores Normal and Fighting, Steel ignores Poison, Dark ignores Psychic and Fairy ignores Dragon. Each one gives you a free switch-in.

5. Mix speed and bulk

Types aren't everything. Pair a fast attacker such as Jolteon or Alakazam with something bulky like Snorlax or Lapras so you can take a hit and still strike back.

Example: a solid Kanto team

BlastoiseJolteonVenusaurGengarSnorlaxDragonite

Try this link: Blastoise, Jolteon, Venusaur, Gengar, Snorlax, Dragonite. Water, Electric and Grass cover each other; Gengar is immune to Normal and Fighting; Snorlax soaks up special hits; Dragonite's Flying type makes it immune to Ground. The analysis shows a mild Ice weakness, which Blastoise resists, and broad offensive coverage.

Limitations, honestly

This builder looks at types only. It doesn't model abilities (for example Levitate), held items, Tera types, stats or specific moves, and it only includes the first 151 Pokemon. For a playthrough or a casual battle, type balance is usually what matters most; for competitive play you'll want a full damage calculator as well. We'd rather say that up front than pretend otherwise.

Pokemon Team Builder FAQ

Is this Pokemon team builder free?

▶

Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account and costs nothing. Your team is stored in the page link, not on our server.

Which Pokemon can I add?

▶

The original 151 Kanto Pokemon, from Bulbasaur to Mew, with their current (Gen 6+) typings, so Clefairy is Fairy and Magnemite is Electric/Steel.

How does the weakness analysis work?

▶

For each of the 18 attacking types we multiply the type chart values for every Pokemon on your team and count how many are weak (above 1×) or resistant (below 1×, including immunities). Rows are highlighted when several teammates share a weakness that nobody covers.

What does offensive coverage mean here?

▶

It shows which defending types at least one of your Pokemon hits super-effectively with a move of its own type (STAB). It does not know about your exact moveset, so treat it as a quick guide.

How do I share my team?

▶

Press Share link. The URL contains the six Pokédex numbers, for example ?team=6,9,3,25,143,131, so anyone who opens it sees the same team.

Does it include abilities, items, EVs or movesets?

▶

No. This is a type-focused planner for casual play, playthroughs and Nuzlockes. For competitive sets with EVs and items, use a dedicated battle simulator such as Pokemon Showdown.

Can I use it for Pokemon FireRed, LeafGreen or Let's Go?

▶

Yes for planning, since all 151 Pokemon are there. Note that the original Red/Blue games used an older type chart with no Dark, Steel or Fairy types.

Is this an official Pokemon tool?

▶

No. Pokemon All 22 is an independent fan site and is not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures Inc. or The Pokemon Company.
