What is Minior in Pokemon GO?
Minior is a Rock- and Flying-type Pokémon introduced in Generation 7. In the main games it lives high in the atmosphere as a rocky shell (Meteor Form) and sheds that shell when it falls, revealing a bright Core. Pokemon GO keeps that fantasy: wild encounters show the brown Meteor shell, and supported battles can crack the shell open once HP falls far enough.
Unlike many GO debuts that sit in the wild year-round after release, Minior is tied to a series of Minior Showers events inspired by real meteor showers. Between those windows it may be scarce or unavailable, so treat every schedule below as a snapshot — Niantic / Scopely can shift hours, bonuses and which core debuts when.
Meteor Form vs Core Form
Minior is one of the few GO species with a mid-battle form change that actually swaps its Attack/Defense balance:
- Meteor Form — the rocky shell you see in the wild. Higher Defense, lower Attack. It starts every supported battle this way.
- Core Form — exposed after HP drops below about 50%. Higher Attack, lower Defense. The coloured core (Red through Violet) becomes visible.
You do not pick the form from a menu. Damage taken drives the swap; Minior does not need to fire a Charged Attack first. At launch the change worked against Team GO Rocket, team leaders and in the GO Battle League. If that list grows later, the in-game battle preview is the source of truth.
Practically: tank early with the shell, bank energy, then lean into Charged Attacks once the core is out — knowing that Core Form dies faster to anything that was already uncomfortable (Water, Electric, Ice, Rock, Steel).
All seven Minior cores
There are seven core colours, matching the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. Stat-wise they share the same Rock/Flying typing; the difference is collection and cosmetics. Green Core was the first confirmed GO debut during the Orionids shower in October 2026. Remaining colours roll out across later showers; December’s Geminids is special because one colour debuts in the Northern Hemisphere and another in the Southern Hemisphere.
| Core | Notes (verify in-game) |
|---|---|
| Green | First GO debut (Orionids 2026) |
| Red | Scheduled across the shower series |
| Orange | Scheduled across the shower series |
| Yellow | Scheduled across the shower series |
| Blue | Scheduled across the shower series |
| Indigo | Scheduled across the shower series |
| Violet | Scheduled across the shower series |
Wild Minior always looks like Meteor Form until you catch it or see it break in battle. You are not hunting seven different wild sprites on the map — you are hunting Minior encounters whose core identity matters once the shell opens.
Minior Showers: spawn and event caveats
Dates change. The table below reflects the announced 2026–2027 Minior Showers series as of late October 2026. Always open Pokemon GO’s Today View / news banner before you plan a walk — start times, end times, Stardust bonuses and research can differ per shower.
| Shower | Announced window | Core notes |
|---|---|---|
| Orionids | Oct 19–24, 2026 | Green Core debuted |
| Leonids | Nov 14–19, 2026 | Next shower after Orionids — core TBA |
| Geminids | Dec 11–16, 2026 | Two cores (N + S hemispheres) |
| Eta Aquariids | May 3–8, 2027 | Core TBA |
| S. Delta Aquariids | Jul 28–Aug 2, 2027 | Core TBA |
| Perseids | Aug 10–15, 2027 | Core TBA |
- Typical daily pattern during a shower: boosted Minior encounters and shooting-star sky effects in the early evening local time (often ~5:00–9:00 p.m.), with the event day lasting later into the night.
- Stardust: catching Minior during showers has paid elevated Stardust (for example 1,000 per catch during Orionids, before a Star Piece). Later showers may keep or change that number.
- Not a permanent wild staple: between showers, do not assume Minior will keep spawning at the same rate.
Shiny Minior notes
Shiny Minior was not part of the October 2026 Orionids debut messaging. Rolling out seven regular cores does not automatically unlock shinies. If a future Minior Shower or Community Day–style event adds shiny Minior, the official Pokemon GO blog and in-game news will say so. Until then, treat shiny odds as unavailable rather than “ultra rare.”
Catch tips
- Hunt the boosted evening window during an active Minior Shower — that is when encounter rate and sky effects usually stack.
- Berries first. A Razz (or Golden Razz when you care about the catch) plus a curveball Excellent throw is still the safest loop on a rocky shell that can bounce balls.
- Star Piece timing. If the shower pays high Stardust per Minior, activate a Star Piece before a dense catch stretch and before claiming event Timed Research that awards Stardust.
- Incense / Lures help if you are stuck indoors during the short evening peak; they do not replace checking that the shower is actually live.
- Transfer junk carefully. Keep at least one of each core colour you unlock, plus any high-IV candidates for Great League testing, before you mass-transfer Meteor shells.
- Weather: Rock/Flying likes Partly Cloudy and Windy boosts when weather bonuses apply — useful when a shower overlaps with those conditions, but event spawn rules still dominate.
Moves overview
Move pools in Pokemon GO get rebalanced. Treat this as a high-level orientation and confirm Minior’s current Fast and Charged Attacks in the appraisal / move screen before you spend Elite TMs or rare candy.
- Typing: Rock/Flying STAB wants Rock and Flying moves for damage; coverage Charged Attacks matter more once Core Form’s Attack spike comes online.
- Common Fast Attack theme: energy-friendly Rock options (for example Rollout-style moves when present on the species) help you charge while Meteor Form is still tanking.
- Charged Attack theme: Rock moves such as Ancient Power / Power Gem–style options and Flying options such as Acrobatics have been discussed for GO Minior kits — exact availability depends on the live movepool.
- PvP habit: build energy under the shell, then threaten shields once the core is exposed. Do not linger in Core Form against Water or Electric leads without a plan.

Is Minior worth powering up?
For collectors: yes — the seven cores are a multi-month chase across hemispheres. For PvP: Meteor Form bulk plus Core Form power is interesting in Great League–style cups, but the Rock/Flying weakness grid is harsh and form timing is easy to misplay. Power up a good IV specimen if you enjoy the niche; wait on mass investment until you have lived with the movepool in real battles.
