Who's That Pokemon?Name the shadow. Keep the streak.

Who's That Pokemon is a free daily silhouette quiz: one mystery Pokemon for everyone, six guesses and Pokemon Wordle style hints for type, height, weight and Pokédex number. Play unlimited rounds after the daily.

How to play Who's That Pokemon

  1. Study the silhouette. Every day at 00:00 UTC a new Kanto Pokemon is chosen from the date, the same for every player. You see only its black outline.
  2. Type a guess. Start typing a name and pick from the suggestions, or press Enter for the top match.
  3. Read the hints. Each guess adds a row: type (🟩 exact match, 🟨 shares a type, ⬛ no match) and arrows for height, weight and Pokédex number (⬆️ the answer is higher, ⬇️ lower, ✅ exact).
  4. Solve it in six. After your third guess you also get the first letter. Guess right and the full-colour sprite is revealed.
  5. Share and come back. Copy your emoji grid without spoiling the answer, and return tomorrow to grow your streak.

A Pokemon Wordle with silhouettes

Wordle made daily puzzles a habit: one shared challenge, limited guesses and a result you can post without spoilers. Pokemon fans built many "Pokemon Wordle" variants around that idea, and the anime has had its own guessing game since 1997, when "Who's that Pokemon?" introduced every ad break. This page combines the two. The silhouette gives you the instant "I know that shape!" moment, and the hint grid turns a wrong guess into useful information instead of a dead end.

Our silhouettes are generated in your browser from the same small pixel sprites used across this site, simply blacked out, so there is no answer hidden in an image file name or a downloadable picture.

Tips for a better score

Pikachu, a good first guessSnorlax, heavy and tallOnix, tall and heavy Rock typeGengar, a classic silhouette
  • Open with a splitter. A first guess with a common type and a middling size, such as Pikachu, Golem or Arcanine, tells you a lot whichever way the arrows point.
  • Use the Pokédex arrow. Kanto numbers follow evolution lines and roughly follow the order of the games' routes. An answer above 120 is likely a late-game or legendary Pokemon.
  • Combine height and weight. Tall but light suggests a Ghost or Flying type; short but heavy suggests Rock or Steel.
  • Trust the outline. Wings, tails, horns and leaves are big clues. Count limbs before you count stats.
  • Don't waste guesses on the same line. If Charmander was too short, its evolutions will tell you more than another small Fire type.

Daily mode vs unlimited mode

Daily is the shared puzzle: one per day, it updates your games played, win rate, current streak and best streak, and it gives you a numbered result to share. Unlimited picks a random Pokemon each round with the same hints and no effect on your stats, so you can practise or just keep playing. Both modes stay in your browser; there's no sign-up.

Pokemon silhouette quiz for classrooms and streams

Because the daily puzzle is the same for everyone, it works well as a quick group activity: put the silhouette on screen, let the group shout guesses and type the best one. Unlimited mode is good for longer sessions. The page works on phones, tablets and desktop browsers.

Who's That Pokemon answers and fairness

We never publish the daily answer on the page before you finish, and the answer is not in the page source as a name. Each day's Pokemon comes from a seeded random pick based on the date, so nobody, including us, hand-picks easy or hard days. Some days will be an instantly recognisable Pikachu or Charizard; others will be a Tangela or a Kabuto that tests real Kanto knowledge. That mix is part of the fun. If you miss one, unlimited mode is a good way to learn the shapes you got wrong.

Who's That Pokemon on mobile

The quiz is designed for phones first: large silhouette, an autocomplete box that appears as you type, and a compact hint table. On a narrow screen, scroll down after each guess to see the new hint row.

Who's That Pokemon FAQ

What is Who's That Pokemon?

▶

It's a guessing game inspired by the classic segment from the Pokemon anime: you see a Pokemon's black silhouette and have to name it. Our version adds Wordle-style hints and a new daily puzzle.

Is this a Pokemon Wordle?

▶

Yes in format. There is one daily Pokemon for everyone, six guesses, colour and arrow hints after each guess, a streak and a spoiler-free emoji result to share.

When does the daily Pokemon change?

▶

At 00:00 UTC every day. Everyone in the world gets the same mystery Pokemon on the same date.

Which Pokemon can appear?

▶

Any of the original 151 Kanto Pokemon, from Bulbasaur to Mew.

How do the hints work?

▶

After each guess you see whether its type matches (green exact, yellow shared type) and arrows showing whether the answer is taller, heavier or has a higher Pokédex number. After three guesses you also get the first letter.

Can I play more than once a day?

▶

The daily puzzle counts once for your streak. Unlimited mode gives you a new random silhouette whenever you want, with the same hints, and doesn't affect your stats.

Where are my stats saved?

▶

In your browser's local storage. There is no account, so clearing site data resets your streak.

Is this an official Pokemon game?

▶

No. It is an unofficial fan game, not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures Inc. or The Pokemon Company.
