How to use the Pokemon roulette wheel
- Set a filter. Choose a type (or All types) and tick "Strong only" if you want Pokemon with a base stat total of 450 or more.
- Load a wheel. Twelve Pokemon from your pool are placed on the wheel, coloured by their main type. Press New wheel to draw a different twelve.
- Spin. The wheel turns for about four seconds and the pointer lands on your Pokemon, which is then shown with its types.
Random Pokemon team generator
Need a whole team? Press Generate team to draw six different Pokemon from the same filter. The page link updates, so you can copy it and share the exact six with friends, chat or a stream. One click sends the team to the Pokemon team builder, where you can see shared weaknesses and type coverage and swap out the weak links.
Fun ways to use a random Pokemon picker
- Randomizer challenge. Spin six times and play through a game using only those Pokemon.
- Mono-type roulette. Set the filter to one type and spin for a themed run, such as an all-Water or all-Poison team.
- Draft night. Take turns spinning with friends and build teams pick by pick, then battle. For a structured version try our snake draft.
- Daily Red practice. Our Daily Red game already deals you six random Pokemon; use the generator to practise thinking about random teams.
- Drawing and art prompts. Spin for a Pokemon to draw, or spin twice for a fusion idea.
- Classroom and stream giveaways. A visible wheel feels fairer than picking by hand.
Is a Pokemon roulette fair?
Every slot on a wheel has the same chance. Under the hood each spin uses JavaScript's built-in random number generator to pick a slot, and the animation simply rotates the wheel so that slot stops under the pointer. Wheels and teams are drawn without duplicates. That's random enough for games and giveaways, though it isn't a cryptographic lottery, and we don't claim it is.
Which Pokemon are included?
Right now the wheel uses the original 151 Kanto Pokemon with their modern typings, the same list as everything else on this site. That's why the type filter shows only types that appear in Generation 1; Dark-type Kanto Pokemon, for instance, don't exist. We say so plainly rather than offering filters that return nothing. If you want to look up how any type matchup works, including types that aren't in Kanto, use the type calculator.
Pokemon roulette vs Pokemon randomizer
A Pokemon roulette picks Pokemon for you outside the game; a Pokemon randomizer is a ROM tool that changes which Pokemon appear inside the game itself. The roulette is simpler and needs nothing installed: spin, write down the result and play with it in any official game. Many players combine both, using the roulette to choose a starter and party rules, then playing a normal copy of the game. The wheel above is a pure Pokemon roulette, and the generator below it is a random Pokemon team generator for quick six-Pokemon challenges.
Pokemon roulette rules ideas
Popular house rules include: spin once per route and catch only that Pokemon (or its evolution line); spin a type and use only that type for the next gym; spin six and never switch out the lead until it faints. Write your rules down before the first spin so the challenge stays honest.
Tips for building with a random team
Random teams often stack weaknesses, for example three Pokemon weak to Ground. When that happens, lead with the Pokemon that resists the threat, switch defensively and lean on your widest-coverage attacker. A quick check in the team builder shows which attacking types will hurt most. Bulbapedia keeps a full National Pokedex list if you want to look up any result. Want a different kind of challenge?
