New Pokemon in Winds and Waves: the three starters
Browt (Grass, Overgrow), Pombon (Fire, Blaze) and Gecqua (Water, Torrent) are the first Gen 10 Pokémon revealed. All three are single-type first stages; their evolutions are not announced yet. Full details, sizes and Pokédex entries are on the Winds and Waves starters page.
Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu
The announcement trailer also introduced two Pikachu with a new, holiday-style look. The official site names them Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu and says only: "Just how could these Pikachu be involved in your adventure? Look forward to future announcements." Their type, role and whether they are catchable are not announced yet. The names echo the two versions, Winds and Waves.
The region and its ecosystems
The official description promises "beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves that ebb and flow", and says that the Pokémon living there "have developed their own unique ecosystems". That language hints at regional variants or island-specific Pokémon, but none has been revealed. The region's name is not announced yet.
IGN and many fans read the trailer as inspired by Southeast Asia, especially the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, much as Paldea drew on Spain and Alola on Hawaii. The Pokémon Company has not confirmed a real-world inspiration.
What is not announced yet
- Total number of new Pokémon and the size of the regional Pokédex
- Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, including the box-art legendaries
- Starter evolutions
- Regional forms, new types or a new battle mechanic
- Version-exclusive Pokémon
- Whether older Pokémon can be transferred (for example through Pokémon HOME)
About the "300 new Pokemon" rumour
Leakers have claimed that the games include around 300 new Pokémon or forms, plus weather-related forms. These claims are unconfirmed and based on old development data. We cover them, clearly labelled, on the leaks vs confirmed page, and we will only add Pokémon to the table above once they are official.
How Gen 10 compares with earlier generations
Recent generations each introduced around 100 new Pokémon in total, counting later releases and DLC: Generation 8 brought 96 (Nos. 810–905) and Generation 9 brought 120 (Nos. 906–1025), according to Bulbapedia. Whether Winds and Waves goes bigger is not announced yet.
