All 22 Positions Explained for Pokemon Football
If you are coming to Pokemon All 22 from the Pokémon side rather than the football side, the 22 positions can look like alphabet soup. This guide explains every spot in plain language, what the job is on a real field, and exactly which Pokémon stats our rating formula uses for it.
The offense (11 players)
Quarterback (QB)
The quarterback touches the ball on almost every play and decides where it goes. In our formula a QB is 45% Special Attack, 30% Special Defense and 25% Speed: think of Special Attack as arm talent, Special Defense as composure under pressure and Speed as escaping the rush. That is why psychic and electric Pokémon dominate here: Mewtwo (94), Alakazam (90), Gengar and Jolteon (86).
Running back (RB)
The running back carries the ball through traffic. Our weights: 50% Speed, 35% Attack, 15% HP. You want burst plus power. Aerodactyl (88), Dodrio, Electrode, Scyther and Tauros (all 83) are strong options.
Fullback (FB)
The fullback is a battering ram who blocks for the running back and occasionally carries in short yardage. Weights: 40% Attack, 30% HP, 30% size. Snorlax rates 98, the highest fullback on the board, with Rhydon (94), Dragonite (93) and Machamp (92) behind.
Wide receivers (WR ×2)
Receivers line up wide and run routes to catch passes. Weights: 70% Speed, 15% Special Attack, 15% Attack. Speed is king, so Electrode (92), Jolteon and Aerodactyl (89) and Dugtrio (85) all play well here.
Tight end (TE)
A tight end is half blocker, half receiver. Weights: 35% Attack, 30% Defense, 20% Speed, 15% size. Balanced, armoured Pokémon fit best: Cloyster (92), Kingler (89), Dragonite and Mewtwo (88).
Offensive line (LT, LG, C, RG, RT)
Five linemen protect the quarterback and open running lanes. The centre snaps the ball; tackles face the fastest pass rushers. All five use 45% Defense, 25% HP, 30% size. Cloyster (98), Onix and Rhydon (93), Golem (92) and Slowbro (89) are the cornerstones.
The defense (11 players)
Defensive line (LE, DT ×2, RE)
Four defensive linemen try to collapse the pocket and stop the run. Weights: 40% Attack, 20% Defense, 40% size. This is where heavy hitters live: Rhydon (97), Golem, Cloyster and Dragonite (96), Kingler (95), Machamp (94).
Linebackers (OLB ×2, MLB)
Linebackers tackle runners, rush the passer and drop into coverage. They need everything a little. Weights: 40% Attack, 30% Speed, 30% Defense. Cloyster (87), Kingler (86), Mewtwo (86), Dragonite (85) and Pinsir (84) lead.
Cornerbacks (CB ×2)
Cornerbacks shadow wide receivers. Weights: 60% Speed, 25% Special Defense, 15% Attack. Electrode and Mewtwo (89), Jolteon and Aerodactyl (87) are the best cover players.
Safeties (FS, SS)
Safeties are the last line of defense, reading the quarterback and helping on deep passes. Weights: 40% Speed, 35% Special Defense, 25% Attack. Mewtwo (87), Aerodactyl (84) and Hitmonlee (83) rate highest.
How size is calculated
Size combines a Pokémon’s weight (on a logarithmic scale, so a 400 kg Pokémon isn’t ten times better than a 40 kg one) and height, capped so that a giant like Onix doesn’t break the scale. Size matters for linemen, fullbacks and tight ends.
Putting it together
A balanced lineup uses fast special attackers in the backfield and secondary, heavy tanks on both lines, and versatile Pokémon in the middle. Look up any position on the scouting board or try your ideas in the builder. Then read how to build the best All 22 team for a step-by-step plan.
A note on realism
These weights are our fan interpretation, not an official system. We chose them to be transparent and to produce believable results: slow tanks on the line, fast Pokémon on the perimeter. If you think Machamp should be a better linebacker, you’re welcome to argue it on social media. That’s half the fun.
