What is Daily Red? A daily Pokémon battle, like Wordle

Daily Red is a daily Pokémon game built around one simple idea: everyone in the world gets the same six random Pokémon today, and everyone faces the same opponent, the legendary trainer Red. Like Wordle, there is one puzzle per day, one official attempt and a spoiler-free emoji grid to share with friends. Unlike Wordle, the puzzle is a turn-based battle. You can't choose your team. You can only choose how to use it.

Our version is a fan-made take on the format that runs right in your browser on the Pokemon All 22 site. It uses the original 151 Pokémon, our own battle formula and a Game Boy style battle screen. There is no download, no sign-up and no cost.

How to play Daily Red

  1. Check today's team. Six random Gen 1 Pokémon are dealt from the date's seed at 00:00 UTC. Red's six are never in your team.
  2. Pick your lead. Tap a Pokémon before the battle to send it out first. Red always leads with Pikachu.
  3. Battle. Each turn choose one of up to four moves or switch to a teammate. The faster Pokémon attacks first.
  4. Read the matchups. Every move button shows SUPER, WEAK or NO EFFECT against Red's active Pokémon.
  5. Win and share. Knock out all six of Red's Pokémon. Copy your result, post it to the Hall of Fame and come back tomorrow to keep your streak.

Battle rules at a glance

  • All Pokémon are level 50. Each one has a move for each of its types, a coverage move and a Normal move.
  • Same-type moves get a 1.5× bonus, type matchups multiply damage by 2×, ½× or 0×, and critical hits (1 in 16) do 1.5×.
  • Switching uses your turn, and Red attacks the Pokémon coming in.

Pokémon Trainer Red's team

Red's team never changes, so learning it is the first step to winning. He sends his Pokémon out in this order and never switches voluntarily:

Pikachu, Red's Pokémon #1 in Daily Red
1. Pikachu
electric · Spe 185
Volt Strike, Frost Beam, Tackle Rush
Lapras, Red's Pokémon #2 in Daily Red
2. Lapras
water / ice · Spe 125
Hydro Jet, Frost Beam, Tackle Rush
Snorlax, Red's Pokémon #3 in Daily Red
3. Snorlax
normal · Spe 65
Body Slam, Power Punch, Hyper Strike
Venusaur, Red's Pokémon #4 in Daily Red
4. Venusaur
grass / poison · Spe 165
Leaf Blade, Venom Fang, Tackle Rush
Charizard, Red's Pokémon #5 in Daily Red
5. Charizard
fire / flying · Spe 205
Flame Burst, Sky Dive, Quake, Tackle Rush
Blastoise, Red's Pokémon #6 in Daily Red
6. Blastoise
water · Spe 161
Hydro Jet, Frost Beam, Tackle Rush

Red picks whichever of his moves would deal the most damage to your active Pokémon, counting type effectiveness. That makes him predictable, and predictable opponents can be beaten.

How to beat Red: quick tips

  • Counter Pikachu first. Ground types are immune to Electric and hit Pikachu super-effectively. Grass and Dragon types resist Electric.
  • Save Electric and Grass attackers for Lapras and Blastoise, the water half of Red's team.
  • Snorlax is slow but bulky. Almost anything outspeeds it. Fighting moves deal double damage, and Ghost types are immune to its Normal attacks.
  • Charizard is the speed check. Rock moves are 4× effective against it; Electric and Water are 2×.
  • Switch only into resistances. A switch costs a turn, so make sure the incoming Pokémon takes little damage.

Daily Red Pokemon list: replay past days

Missed a day or want a rematch? The 📅 Past Days button above the battle screen opens a grid of every earlier day (with 🏆/❌ marks for days you've replayed); pick one, or step through days with the ← / → buttons, to load that day's team in practice mode, so it never changes your streak or official record. You can also browse the full Daily Red archive, which lists every day's number, date and six Pokémon, with a one-click link to replay it.

Practice mode: unlimited daily Pokémon battles

Finished today's battle? Hit ∞ Practice for a fresh random team every time. It's the best way to learn how the battle system works before tomorrow's official attempt.

Daily Red Hall of Fame and streaks

Beat Red and you can post your win to the daily Hall of Fame, ranked by fewest turns and then most HP left. Every entry is replayed on our server from the day's seed, so the board shows real wins. Your games played, wins and current streak are stored in your browser. Compare challenge scores on the main Pokemon All 22 leaderboard too.

Daily Red Pokemon FAQ

What is Daily Red Pokemon?

▶

Daily Red is a daily Pokémon battle game: every player gets the same six random Pokémon each day and gets one official battle against Red. This page is our own free Gen 1 version with a simplified battle engine we built ourselves.

Is Daily Red like Wordle?

▶

Yes in rhythm: one puzzle a day, the same for everyone, a streak to protect and a spoiler-free emoji grid to share. But instead of guessing a word, each day's puzzle is a six-on-six Pokémon battle.

What time does the Daily Red team reset?

▶

Every day at 00:00 UTC (8:00 PM New York during daylight time, 8:00 AM Beijing). The countdown next to the game shows exactly how long is left.

What is Red's Pokémon team?

▶

In this game Red always uses Pikachu, Lapras, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise at level 50, and he always leads with Pikachu.

How do I beat Red in Daily Red?

▶

Lead with something that resists or is immune to Electric (Ground types are ideal against Pikachu), save Electric and Grass attackers for Lapras and Blastoise, use Fighting moves on Snorlax and Rock moves on Charizard. Read our full strategy guide for more.

How many times can I play Daily Red?

▶

One official battle per day counts for your streak and the Hall of Fame. Practice mode gives unlimited random teams, and Past Days lets you replay earlier teams without affecting your record.

Can I play past Daily Red teams?

▶

Yes. Use the Past Days menu above the game or open the Daily Red archive, which lists every day's number, date and team.

Do I need an account or download?

▶

No. Daily Red runs in your browser on desktop and mobile. Your wins and streak are saved on your device.

How is the Daily Red Hall of Fame ranked?

▶

Only wins count. Players are ranked by fewest turns, then most HP left. Our server replays every battle from the day's seed before accepting it.

Is this the same as Trainer Red's team in Pokémon Gold and Silver?

▶

Close. At Mt. Silver in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Red uses Pikachu, Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Our game only uses the original 151 Pokémon, so Lapras takes Espeon's place.

Is this the official Daily Red or an official Pokémon game?

▶

No. It is an independent, unofficial fan game, not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures, The Pokémon Company or other Daily Red sites.
